Samsung i8910 Photo SampleThe Samsung i8910 Omnia HD brings so many high-end features to the table including HD video recording, AMOLED screen and superb video playback that it’s understandable that other features have been given less attention by the press. Three areas in which I’m looking to find out a lot more about as the phone nears release is the camera side, GPS functionality as well as battery life.

Italian site, HDBlog.it has helped with the first part by taking some photo samples and comparing it to two other Symbian phones, the Nokia N95 as well as the Samsung i8510 (INNOV8). The comparison against the N95 may be a little unfair given that it has a 5MP camera compared to the 8MP sensor found in the Omnia HD. The comparison against the i8510 is an interesting one though as they both use the same sensor. We’ve included a few sample comparisons after the jump but check out the HDBlog.it for the full set (here & here).

the brightness for the last pic of the hd is so different in what should we expect. ithink its just a pre-production unit.

Firstly, it can’t be sayed that the quality of the pictures is seen here, at least not for the promissing 8 mega pixel camera specialy after we have seen what 8 mega pixel camera can do on the innov8.

In my opinion, even the Nokia N95 provides more sharpness and less noice and I think its a little bit of disappointment when 5 megapixel camera beats 8 megapixel camera that should take HD videos and realy HQ pics
and all you can be comforted by in this comparison is the colors BUT in another look between Omnia’s pics and innov8’s pics you clearly can see where is the big miss, it looks like Omnia’s pics were taken by some cheap camera with crppy lense so the sharpness is gone and the colors are pale and missing alot of saturation.

I realy hope for samsung and specialy for the ones that eventualy got convinced to purchase the prmissing Samsung Omnia HD (which I am one of them), that this pictures talks only for the pre release demo unit and the final device will be a lot better and configured to show the real quality that the 8 MP camera can provide and I’m sure it is, at least as good as the innov8’s one, if not better.

Secondly, the Omnia HD is not perfect, there is more place for improvement such as adding to this fenomenal multimedia device a Xenon flash opossed to single LED flash, a automatic camera shutter to protect the lense from dust and scrutches like the one that can be found in the innov8, a metal brushed battery cover and not some glossy plastic cover that loves fingerprints and barely holds the phone and another small thing, in my opinion the Omnia HD could be designed better with a little bit of metalic shine and curvy body but its just a secondary detail that could make Omnia HD to a better and more attractive phone, and I dont talk about the sizes of this phone – in a positive way, its not a issue for me and my aproach to the weight is the same so if they replaced the metal brushed battery cover because it adds few grams to the toal weight I think they have done more damage then helping the weight problem because few grams are acceptable if this is what it takes to protect better the phone from scratches and hits
so they realy should not do it and I hope that Samsung will do the conclutions and finaly will make the right decisions before they will announce the final version of the device and start selling it to the wide community that anxiously waiting for its release date that is getting closer and closer, Mmmm… I can smell it.. and it smells GREAT!

    Good Luck!
