Orange Samsung i8910 HDWith the Samsung i8910 Omnia HD expected to launch in the UK in the coming weeks, the media campaign has already started. Orange is running a full page newspaper campaign claiming that it has full exclusivity of the i8910 HD when it comes to pay monthly contracts.

The small print of the ad also confirms what the i8910 HD will cost an upfront fee of £78 when you connect to Dolphin 40 on a 24-month contract. The monthly fee ranges from £39.15 per month if you order it from an Orange shop or £34.25 if ordered online. The wording of the small-print doesn’t make it clear to me if these amounts include 15 percent VAT or not.

I’m not sure whether Orange has a timed exclusivity, but it certainly will be a blow for consumers who are currently on other networks. If you want to get the phone sim-free, the phone is available to pre-order from the likes of play.com for £529.99. We have attached the advert after the jump including the full text from the small print.

Small print of Orange Samsung i8910 HD advert:

Subject to status and availability. Samsung i8910 HD available for £78 when you connect to Dolphin 40. Unlimited texts, 1200 minutes, mobile internet browsing (up to 500MB) and unlimited sat nav when you connect to Dolphin 40 on a 24 month contract which will be charged at £39.15 per month when you visit any Orange shop and £34.25 a month when you connect at orange.co.uk/shop with VAT at the current rate of 15%. Price subject to payment by Direct Debit and non-itemised billing.

Any network minutes can be used to call UK networks and standard UK landlines (those beginning with 01/02/03). Out of bundle calls charged at standard rates, see price guide for details at orange.co.uk/paymonthlyguide. Unlimited texts are for standard person to person texts sent to any UK mobile phone network whilst in the UK. Unlimited usage subject to fair use policy. Unused minutes and texts do not rollover. Other terms apply, see orange.co.uk/terms.

Why don’t Orange have an unlimited data plan? It’s nuts. T-mobile will give you unlimited web’n'walk for £7.50 and Orange can only offer 500Mb for £5. What a joke.

  2. Griff says:

I can’t believe Orange have this exclusive! They are a joke, Network coverage is rubbish! Would have much prefered this on T-mobile due to their Web ‘n’ Walk service or even O2. I hope it won’t be long before these Networks get it….My wait for this phone continues, I won’t be getting it on Orange.

  3. Omniac says:

Right, thats it, Im leaving T-mobile.

My contract has been up for almost a full year now, at first they ummed and ahhed about whether or not the xperia x1 was coming to them, and I expect theyd do the same for the n97. Orange’s web plan is a joke though, but I doubt Id use it very much outside my home network anyway.

  4. Chappas says:

I’m devastated. I’m currently on 02, and have unlimited 02 to 02 calls because almost everyone I call is on 02.

I could’ve offset this with the 1200 minutes, as that’s double what I’m getting right now, but the 500mb allowance is almost criminal.
O2 offer unlimited; T-mobile offer unlimited; and Vodafone offer unlimited… :’( Why can’t Orange ffs.

  5. DaWaBZ says:

I hate all those providers allways trying to lock people with exclusivity
    Especially Orange in france
    Think I’ll get mine appart
    Seriously, go to hell, Orange

  6. v1rtu4l says:

there is a rumour that the big providers wont support devices with symbian, because you can use skype on them and so could make calls without paying for it if you have unlimited internet access … perhaps that is the reason because only orange do support it and that only with limited internet use

  7. Mr N says:

I hope that Orange doesnt do this crap in the netherlands. my contract is about to end and i want this foon but not with orange.

And im not gone pay big time for the foon.

  8. lloyd says:

every network has a fair usage policy on there unlimited data packages orange is 500mb but then so is voda o2 i beleive is 3gb which is huge and t-mob i think is 1gb which is more than enough but to be honest ive never heard of any1 goin over a 500mb data usage in my 2 years of working as a sales rep

  9. Kin says:

Hey guyz dont spend ur money on orange. sumsung is gonna start selling sim free Samsung i8910 HD in somthing like three weeks from now. Orage network is scaming and bulshitting people. it has just raised the hanset cost from £97 to nearly £130 on Dolphin 35 price plan. I hear that the phone is also gonna be on O2 by 12/6/09

  10. kundi says:

    Orange are bullshiting everyone
They were my first network and i would never go back to them
    rubbish coverage and customer service

    @lloyd
do you live in this world
we use youtube and facebook online
    sometimes watch live games
even 3gb is not enough for proper online multimedia usage!

  11. elisha isral says:

I was so looking forward to this phone on o2, but with this “exclusivity” crap going on these days, I really hate it!!! makes me wanna puke!

    I DO NOT LIKE ORANGE!

What’s the deal with this exclusivity nonsensical madness? Exclusivity is at a loss to the manufacturer, because if this phone was available on all networks, there will be more sales.
I mean, this is the UK, we didn’t use to do this exclusivity crap like the US, but with the advent of the iphone, exclusivity has now become a common phenomenom.

I remember the days when you glance in the carphone warehouse section and all phones were practically available on every known network, but these days thats not true..
Maybe I should get the European Union to look into this, because the omnia hd has everything i want in a phone currently available, but its a shame i can’t get it because I do not want to leave my t-mobile and o2 network..

The consumers are not being thought of when they strike these exclusivity deals, are choices are being restricted.
I think i’ll file a lawsuit against orange and samsung UK… I will file a lawsuit.. just wait to hear my names in the newspapers very soon

  12. derek says:

    hi guys …
i m planin to import one for myself from UK …

some1 give the exact price of the i8910 (locked 1 only !)

  13. howler says:

Orange shop, the carphone warehouse and phones 4 u have recalled their stock of the samsung i8910 hd for software problems (quoted by the manager of a phones 4 u shop last week),
They no longer sell this phone in any of their shops !! and its only just been released, is this because orange have messed with the operating system ? or have they made a huge mistake by bringing out the Jet and boasting that it has a far superior operating system to the symbian ?

Can anyone tell me weather the phones will be upgraded and released for sale again ? or have they been discontinued for ever?

hhmmm – should i punt for the much duller Nokia N97 ?? or wait for the verdict ?

  14. Drew says:

Great shout howler, i want to know too. Im not sure what to do for the best either. Phone looks good. IS the general idea on the size ok? Seen it in the shops but not sure if its a tad too bulky, what are people finding with it?

  15. Mike Speyer says:

Orange Pricing – my experience. just got this fone for £15 upfront, £30p/m. However i am an existing customer they didnt want to let go. A lot of peeps seem to be complaining about the handset tye-in with orange but remember that the same us true with its nemesis iphone on o2. i went for 1gb month for 9 quid a mth and that should b enough i recon – after all, unlimited does not mean “unlimited” in any communications contract ive ever seen so you cannot compare can you? Regardless of carrier, the handset itself is what should be subject to criticism or acclaim. Lets hope that samsung can do us proud.

  16. Mike Speyer says:

Incidentaly – Howler, u can still get this phone directly from orange by calling them or going online.

  17. howler says:

Not anymore Mike, orange have taken them off the shelf too !!

  18. sian says:

no, they haven’t. i work next door to an orange retailer and i went in for myself and saw it in the flesh 2 days ago. i still refuse to buy it until samsung realise they have made a big mistake, and allow other networks to stock it. the least they could have done for the benefit of us, AND their business, is give the exclusivity to a network we actually want to use!

  19. No says:

Any news on this comeing to any other network?
