I have an Orange branded handset and just checked my firmware version after reading this article.

M phone reports that it has:

Software version I8910BVIE7 dated 18/05/2009
Custom version I8910RAIE4 dated 15/05/2009

So I'm not not sure if I should go for the debranded software mentioned in the other article or not?

Can someone with an open I8910 try that?
Because from the pics posted here it just seems that they have been updated on Lab.dev to the firmware that should also be preinstalled on most of the SIM-free models and nothing else. (They first had a firmware from February)
The first picture here was taken from Lab.dev I suppose. (look at the white borders left and right and at the colours of the Options and Exit button. It looks exactly like the compression used in Lab.dev)

That site is a dev site so you don't get the firmware from there. You have to install the PC Suite to get hold of it, but many Orange users are reporting that it doesn't work (probably as it's only for unbranded phones).

What's interesting though is that the i8910 HD seems to have been removed from that dev link, whilst it was up earlier on!
