Samsung to release AAC fix for HD video recording?
Posted by soHD in Firmware, News, Problems, tags: AAC, AMR
It appears a fix for the much-maligned video recording issue on the Samsung i8910 Omnia HD may be on its way. If you remember, Samsung is currently using the AMR audio codec, which means that when recording video the sound quality is quite poor. It has been the biggest criticism that the phone has received since its launch.
Samsung Italia has now given an update on its Facebook page that is likely to please both current and prospective i8910 owners. It is saying that two updates are planned in the coming weeks. The first update will be released next week and will improve the general performance of the phone. The second update will replace the AMR codec with AAC when recording video at HD 720p resolutions. This particular update is planned for release in a fortnight’s time.
We would still be cautious until we hear it from a more official source, especially as Samsung always insisted that due to the sheer data being processed at 720p, a more enhanced audio codec wasn’t feasible. Also, it’s unknown at this stage whether AAC is coming to lower-resolution video recording such as VGA as well. So far, there is no confirmation on the Samsung Innovator boards, but fingers crossed this much needed update is on the way.
Thanks KILLERluki!

Finally?
Please let this be true!!!!! The sound right now truly sucks and I have not recorded any videos because of this.
actually,
this is what we need:
1280×720 – AMR@8kHz with 24fps
720×480 – AAC with 44khz
640×480 and less – AAC with 44khz
imagine 720p with AAC.. 18-20fps..
lol
I really hope they haven’t got it backwards…
We only want good audio in D1 and VGA! the HD is bad enough as it is…
I hope its true…at least samsung hopefully will not make the errors Lg did…..Nothing customer service/firmware updates ecc….Go samsung go!!!
(ex user of Lg cellphones ….)
i dont believe a damn word
nobody official from samsung says a single word about any upcoming fix NOWHERE
and on a sidenote we really dont need 780p with 20 fps ….so if samsung really is going to fix anything give us a good aac codec in lower resolutions with stable good fps going along
until this audio codec not fixed i can only warn everyone to buy this phone its not worth the price with all the flaws and bugs u can read in any forum……..especially with this weak audio as everyone complains about
@smh, yes because people buy phone just for video recording. gimme a break!
anyways, HD works fine for me (at least framerate does)
The HD Camera is a big sell point for this phone.
That’s why I bought it actually, along with it’s big display for browsing/email and its faster hardware.
This far I have quite a few problems with it:
- the default browser is very very slow(and I don’t speak here about the time it takes to load a site, but about the experience after loading it, mainly scrolling)
- the default browser is very very slow, I should stress this out; if you own a HTC Magic or an Iphone and the most important thing to you is browsing, DON’T EVEN THINK about getting this phone and using it with its default browser; Opera Mini is much faster, but not stable
- the default browser crashes a lot
- JRE(java runtime) is bogus
- Opera Mini, latest version(4.2.14320) crashes a lot(is it because of the bogus JRE?)
- the HD recording is not stable, the FPS is not constant, far from it
- the email client wastes a lot of space; what good such a big display if you can’t use it for displaying information? the font is much too big, the buttons on the right are huge(they take about 25% of the screen, landscape mode)
- the photo galleries(both of them) are rather slow and lack in functionality
- it is rather slow, altough the hardware should have made it possible to feel much faster, it actually feels slower than my other phone(E71); both are configured for optimal performance, no widgets, no fancy home screen etc.
- no kinetic scrolling, no scroll ball nor pad(previously I had a HTC Magic and the scroll ball was very handy)
- no app shop, I liked it a lot as it was on the HTC Magic
- the keyboard layout doesn’t switch automatically when rotating the phone(landscape vs portrait)
- it feels somewhat bulky(size wise)
So why do I keep this phone?
- I hope for better software(better firmware)
- the camera is the best out there, and I need it that way(the HTC Magic has a horrible camera)
- the screen is perfect for me(big!)
- better keyboard layout than the ones on the Iphone or HTC Magic
- the battery time is quite good compared to the Iphone, about the same if compared to the HTC Magic
- it runs Symbian, I always had a Symbian phone since the 7650 came out, I like it to be in control of things, never liked an OS like the one on the Iphone
- I don’t think there is anything out there that could make me happy, so I don’t really have an alternative
What started to be just a comment addresse to alc about why people buy this phone, ended up being much more. I gotta post it some place else as well.
hello all,
I was wondering if any of you could help/enlighten me. Firstly i would like to point out that i’m quite ill-educated when it comes to phones. I debranded my phone and all has gone well, i recently downloaded the new pc suite and when i click on update and the device it states two things:
1) Unable to check the current device version
2) When i click on details it states ‘a device has not been closed properly in prvious updates’.
It also will not let me restore. Does this mean i cannot update again or will i have to find out different means of doing so? Apologies again i am a bit dumb with phones, any help would be much appreciated
CHEERS
Anyone wanting to take advantage of this update will need to first have there phone debranded and also debrand it using a spacific firmware the Italian one, otherwise when connecting to the Samsung PC Studio 7 it wont reconise your phone as the correct region to allow the upgrade.
