Sim-free i8910 Omnia HD now shipping in UK
Posted by soHD in News, tags: Expansys, Play.com
As expected, Samsung is now shipping the sim-free version of the Samsung i8910 Omnia HD in the UK. Online retailer Play.com has already started to ship pre-orders of the 8GB version SKU that costs £529.99. The phone is in stock with the retailer dispatching the phone “within 4-5 days”. Expansys is not expecting stock for a further six days.
We were promised to get our phone this week, but we’re not too surprised to be still waiting. At this rate, all of the Samsung Omnia HD ‘Ambassadors’ will be the last ones to get hands-on with the phone!
Thanks OHDFanatic and warpfive!

Great news. Next thing though. Will tmobile supply it?????
Great news. Next thing though. Will it ever come to the United States?????
I would not wait for play.com or any other UK retailer because they really dont know when they are gonna get it, I pre-ordered with mobilefun, unlocked mobiles and pixmania but cancelled all of them becuase they kept putting the date back. I would never pre-order with play.com after a bad experience with them, read their terms and conditions carefully before you order anything from them. Their customer service is terrible. I ended up getting this phone from amazon, ordered it and 2 days later got it on my door step, its fantastic. By the way there are many american dealers doing it for 800 dollars sim free.
Maybe we’ll be getting the 16GB version and that’s the real reason for the delay, not the firmware being updated.
Who knows Furie, I’m just fed-up with waiting. I fired off another email this morning but had no response back so far…
16gb is already in scandanavia. Would you release a 16gb when your about to release a firmware for the 8gb to solve its teething problems. There are so many webstes all over europe ready to ship sim free of this handset to the UK. Some prices less than whats being offerred in the UK when it arrives. The only problem I had when I got mine from germany is changing the language to English, I had to use google translator ( LOL)
oh yeah microSD is there to expand your storage so 16gb not that relevant
Cee, can you direct me to a legit online site from Scandanavia that is willing to ship to the U.S.A. the 16gb version of i8910?
Needi8910, I dont know any however it has been previewed on this site. Look at 21 June you will find details. Also states 16gb is available in the Netherlands too. Try a google search
Yeah, I’m getting fed up waiting myself. Nokia’s so much better at running these ambassador programs. If it were them we’d have had the phone at least a month before release. Oh well, it’ll happen eventually and we do get to keep them. Found another ambassador online who’s receiving the same news and she seems annoyed too.
Oh, you probably already know this but we’ll be getting the market-free models not just SIM-free. That means as soon as a firmware update is ready we’ll be able to install it. The UK SIM-free models may be ready while the market-free models are delayed for some reason. I haven’t fully looked into that explanation but it’s the most probable at the moment.
I wasn’t aware of that Furie, thanks for letting me know!
@Furie – I just went to your website and I just wanted you to know that I love that your blog is in the inside of the i8910 HD’s screen.
I’m guessing here but I think one major reason why the sim free version is delayed in the uk is down to Orange’s exclusivity deal. When you think about it the sim free version is all over europe but not the UK. Also when I made an enquiry over the phone to Samsung mobile recently the guy I talked to was surprised I had a sim free version in the uk. He thought I had an unlocked orange, when I explained it was delivered from Germany unbranded he almost sounded relieved.
hi, I was wondering if anybody would know if there will be a North American (NAM) version of this phone. I’ve wanting to but this phone but am not sure if I’ll be able to use the 3G here in the US even though I know it supports tri-band 3G – AT&T uses 850/1900mhz while the i8910 supports 900/1900/2100mhz.
Anybody?
Hi guys,
I’m really keen to get the 16GB version of this phone I do not want the 8GB version. I am aware that they are selling in Scandanavia region (also Spain) but I have no idea of any reliable sources which will get one. I am wondering if anyone knows a place to get one and if I do get the Scandanavian version will I be able to install firmware from other countries and get English? (Such as US, Australia, UK)
Has anyone in the UK actually received an unlocked phone? If so from whom? Every week since it was first due Expansys delay delivery by another week!
warpfive has from play.com.
I do not know anyone who has bought a sim free unbranded one in the UK apart from through amazon where I got mine. Its only been possible through Amazon because the sellers are not in the UK. This applies to ebay as well. I know Play.com are based in gurnsey. The last time I was on the play website they didn’t have it, there was a message staying normally delivered in 4-5days or words to that effect.
Thanks Meredith. You wouldn’t believe how hard it was to get it the right size using S60′s editing tools. Eventually managed it then had to load it into Paint for some adjustments anyway. It was an N95 before that.
I wandered into Phones4U today and, in the middle of screaming at them for trying to sell me an iPhone because “it’s better than the new Motorola N97″, I noticed that they were selling the i8910HD SIM free. After making sure they were actually selling it and a prolonged sobbing session outside the shop, I returned home dejected.
Even if I wasn’t an ambassador I’d be annoyed at the way Samsung is playing this. It’s a real failure for Samsung’s PR.
