Samsung i8910 Omnia HD video unboxing

Okay, so I know that a lot of you have the Samsung i8910 Omnia HD already and I know that many of you have seen quite a few i8910 unboxing videos too, but I couldn’t resist throwing mine into the ring too! We put together a quick video that shows us unboxing the handset and we’ve also included some pictures of the whole thing too.
The i8910 HD we were sent was the Italian version, so the box included a European plug and Italian manuals, but this is not too much of an issue. I was a bit upset not to find the key-ring phone stand in the box, this was included in the Orange UK boxes. Initial impressions of the phone are very positive and it’s certainly not as tall as we’d come to believe. We’re still at the very early stages of playing around with the handset, so expect some more useful updates going forward. In the mean time check out our unboxing video and pictures after the break.

Being eyeing this handset for quite some time and just want to get my sweaty hands on it!
I’ve tried the Orange branded handset (the only variant available in the UK) and I was mesmerized by the screen and the features.. BUT Orange crippled the handset so I am waiting for other networks to stock the OmniaHD or Sim-free!
Is it official that the OmniaHD will re-launch in the UK on August 1st or is it just a rumour!?!
No fair! you got the AV cable. My French box didn’t even include the desk stand, let alone an AV cable. Pah!
@uk786: It’s only a rumour that it will have a re-launch. The fact that we were all sent the Italian sim-free units makes me think the UK SKU may still be a few weeks away.

I’m really keen to get this phone and live in the UK. Can I ask where did you buy it from? I’ve been looking around and have seen lots of sites from where I could order one, but I don’t know which one is best. Then there’s the issue of getting the Italian version, like you have, or the French one, which from the comments above suggest some components aren’t included. Could the editor/s of the blog perhaps add a post for guidance on the best places to purchase the sim free unlocked handset?
Jeremy – We didn’t buy the phone, it was sent to us by Samsung via the Omnia HD Ambassador programme.
I think people have been buying the French version of the phone through Pixmania. To be honest, I’m not sure where people are buying the Italian version from, I’m sure somebody else can help on this?

Right now I’m at the point where the Omnia HD is the one I want to get, and I want to get it soon. But there are only two questions delaying me: 1) Which site it best to go through for someone in the UK, and 2) should I wait for the 16GB? I see on sites like play.com that they’ve announced the 16GB is coming — is there any other advantage of a bigger memory apart from the obvious of having more space?
Anyway, looking forward to seeing your opinion of the phone. If I may make a request, I’d be especially interested in seeing an evaluation of its music playing capabilities. Is it as good as any other mp3 player like the iTouch or iPhone? I’ve seen the YouTube clips showing its video playing ability, but what about just for music?

Hi Jeremy, I’m not soHD but i also won a i8910 like he did. I’ve been using it myself for a few days now with my music and to me it seems like a good player, of course you don’t quite have the sync-ability of itunes with the ipod, or an app store. But i have around 750 songs on there so far and its been fine to use, the touch screen is far better than with other samsungs/other makes ive used, and being 3.7 inches really helps.
With the music you can scroll through by artist, album, individual songs etc but theres also a album are 3d flick scroll like on the ipods/iphones if you like to do it that way to.
As for the 16GB thing, i really see no point, it doesnt make any difference to the phone as far as i know and adding a 8GB or 16GB Micro SD would have the same effect.

Hey admin can you please post easy details on how to download GARMIN GPS or anyother good navigation software on this phone?
Hey, did either of you guys find anything missing from the phone? I’m missing the video editor, and the panelled task manager in the firmware they sent out. Haven’t upgraded yet so I’m wondering about the rest of you.
Italian versions are on sale through Play.com I think.
I haven’t upgraded yet as I wanted to find out the limitations of the current firmware first. I couldn’t find either of those apps you mentioned on my one.
My phone doesn’t have the video editor, 3d interface(i don’t think anyone has), flash lite 3.1,tons of browser bugs, upload to web(video) doesn’t work on mine, no tv out cable…thinking about updating the firmware to ig2

Interesting. I mailed Sona about it, Matt replied saying it should be there. I’ve got a couple of weeks until I can upgrade the firmware. Hopefully someone else will know what’s going on.
I don’t have either video editor or task manager either as far as i can tell.

I ‘m leaning on looking at various parts of the phone in different posts rather than a full-on review piece. Still haven’t decided for sure though…

Please Make your review very detailed and in-depth also make sure to review the hardware like the battery cover metal framing etc.

Not all regions have the TV-out included I’m afraid!
Sadly, I’m not impressed or satisfied with the headsets, so instead, I bought Phillips High Bass, now I’m satisfied!!!
