Samsung i8910 Omnia HD now sporting a 1GHz processor?

Rumours are currently circulating that the i8910 HD is now being sold with a 1GHz processor. This follows the phone’s launch in India, with a placeholder clearly highlighting the apparently upgraded processor. Whilst you could attribute this to just human error, the same 1GHZ CPU has been listed on the official Samsung India website.
The i8910 Omnia HD currently has a Texas Instruments OMAP3430 ARM chip with 600MHz clock speed. I would be surprised if this was upped to an TI OMAP3640 ARM chip that has a 1GHz clock speed. Apart from the cost considerations, the move would alienate its existing customers i.e. why not include this from the start?
Whilst some may question whether this multimedia workhorse even needs more power, I’d argue that it does. Not for most of the tasks you’ll use it for, but it would certainly come in handy for one of the phones key selling points, HD video recording. The whole debacle surrounding the AMR/AAC audio issue when recording video, stems from the high CPU stress of the current chip.
Indeed, for one of the phone’s most marketable features, you can tell that the 720p HD video recording just isn’t quite there yet. Apart from the audio issue, HD videos often drop frames, especially when panning fast objects. By sticking in a faster processor, this would hopefully eradicate these issues and enable much better audio quality with a higher sampling rate.
I’m still dubious if this will really come true, but if it does, what do current owners think of this news? The Omnia HD will be available in India for 33,990 INR ($705). We’ve included a few screenshots of the evidence after the jump.
Update: GSMArena has confirmed that the 1GHz Samsung i8910 HD was indeed a misprint on both the website & placeholder. Samsung India added the 420 MHz DSP (the sound processing chip) speed to the 600 MHz ARM Cortex-A8 CPU to get to 1GHz.

If this is true, it’ll be a bit frustrating for me given that my i8910 doesn’t have the benefit of that processor. I’m still frustrated enough with the delay in releasing the upgrade to AAC recording for all handsets let alone the possibility of such a processor improvement on new handsets.
Its good news. I will buy this phone as soon as it comes in the maldives. thanks samsung for 1GHz processor. I love this phone.
its ture guys Samsung i8910 Omnia HD now with 1GHz processor i am from india
I would assume that most of the people on this website are tech junkies.
Always wanting what is new on the market as soon as it comes out.
We all find a sense of satisfaction when you get that “new toy” you’ve been obsessing over.
However, we must all realize that newer technology is already in the process of being manufactured.
Thus, the newness and novelty of your product soon wears off leaving you craving the newer bigger product.
Anyone with an Omnia i8910 should be happy they have one, because it’s an exclusive phone and i am sure i speak for all americans when i say we wish that one of our carriers would have gotten this phone a long time ago.
But i will settle for the Omnia i8000 which should hopefully be in stores soon.
Fingers crossed.
Wow Great news, where can I buy it from in the UK?
When it will be released in germany?
do you know if they would do some fixes?
its a little expensive dont you think?
A little expensive comes with the hardware specs as the market is driven by demand and yet, shortage in supply. So far my experience with Samsung phone is that it is not matured enough to compare with the others in the market like Giant Nokia, Sony Ericsson but with this flagship phone, best hardware specs and Symbian OS, hope it will change my views towards Samsung’s products in the future. Motorola was the pioneer but they made wrong moves by concentrating on size (getting smaller and smaller) rather than functionality with great features. Just my 2 cents… =)

Jay
I’m embarassed this made it to the front page.
Some idiot who knows nothing about mobile processors sees the 600MHz CPU spec and the 430MHz DSP spec, adds them together to get 1GHz, slaps it on a fact card, and everyone flips out thinking Samsung swapped the entire chipset in the middle of production.
There is, has, and always will be one processor in the i8910HD, and it’s the OMAP3430 at 600MHz. This rumor is bullshit.
But it’s not the fact that it was placed on that card that made me decide to post the story. That could easily be explained by human error. My main rationale was that the 1GHz spec is still listed on the official Samsung India website (see screen grab above!)
Don’t get me wrong, I’d be very surprised if it were true, but given the credible source it was difficult to ignore.
Maybe it is new Samsung 1ghz processor . Maybe it this http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_announce_1ghz_arm_cortexa8_hummingbird_cpu-news-1042.php
The poor quality HD video created from the limitation of the 600mHz cpu with the new firmware was the major reason I chose the jet instead of the Omnia HD. If they do upgrade the cpu and fix the problem with the HD video then I will definitely buy the Omnia HD. Since the jet does not have an OS there are virtually no programs/widget available to install, for example symbian programs. I don’t know how samsung can call the jet “smarter than a smartphone”.
That’s what nobody seems to understand. The card and Samsung’s website are correct, technically. Adding the 600MHz CPU and the 430MHz DSP together does add up to 1GHz, but it’s just fluff. No one else clocks mobile processors this way and it’s not to be compared to a real 1GHz CPU as seen in the Toshiba TG01 with the Qualcomm Snapdragon architecture.
If we clocked mobile processors that way, then the N97 would have a 684MHz CPU (434MHz CPU+250MHz DSP), which we all know isn’t true.
Well I think it would be a bit of a let-down for the ones who already have it, but in the end N95 also came in plenty of flavors.
What I realy argue is that Samsung should not be compared with the failure company Sony Ericsson (the joint venture almost broke whan uiq went out of business and they barely have a device that captures VGA) wich only provides ant-brain phones, or “the Giant, nokia” wich hasnt had a successful device in 2 years now. I mean N97 is overadvertised while N95 simply had succes on it’s own, not to mention the two devices have the same hardware(ouch).
I’m glad samsung is smthg fresh and i’m not glad that symbian seems left behind for winmo, but then I’m glad again that samsung heard our AAC issue and proved it’s not blind to the market.
In the end tech-junkies like us still fall into 3 categories sony/apple wanabees, nokia fanboys(n97), and the small market of hardware uber-geeks in wich I too belong that still look up to the omnia hd despite samsungs many many launching/promoting/supporting failures.
So if it is to be 1ghz, GIMME ONE!
Well, assuming they are adding just the dsp and the cpu.to get the 1ghz speed this means that the PHONE HAVE THE SAME HARDWARE BUT ADVERTISED DIFFERENT IN INDIA THAN THE REST OF THE WORLD. Somebody should hit the marketting department in the face as Samsung India is trying to mislead customers using different standards to report their phone speed than the rest of the world, apparently the marketing department is run by thieves in India, I doubt this joke could have been let run in Europe and America.
When I first read about this I was VERY upset! I already purchased the device and it does have alot of issues that could be helped by a faster CPU…however — the advertisements are just plain wrong. If it’s 1ghz — then what CPU is it then? OMAP 36XX, Humingbird? Yeah right, those aren’t even being used yet on mobiles — and if they were, you would bet your big fat ass there would be advertisements…. Why is it the exact same model number? If it is an entirely different CPU, it would need an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT OPERATING SYSTEM, SDK, list goes on. There’s no way samsung would go through all of that, and then release the phone in INDIA of all places.
It’s OFFICIAL no 1GHz processor for i8910 HD http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_officially_denies_the_existence_of_a_1ghz_omnia_hd-news-1068.php
Hit the Samsung India link again. They’ve since taken down the line about the 1GHz processor.
Wow Great news, where can I buy it from in the greece?
