Samsung i8910 Omnia HD ToughGuard Shell Review [Video]

Finding a decent case for the Samsung i8910 Omnia HD can be a tough task. As one of the tallest phones around, the last thing you need is extra bulk. There are a number of very good cases around, but I was looking for something that provided solid protection if the handset fell, in a minimalist design.
The guys over at MobileFun sent over the ToughGuard Shell case to review, which seemed to answer that criteria. The case is well designed, it hardly weighs anything but provides durable protection against knocks & scrapes. It comes in two parts (front & back) with a matte finish so you don’t need to worry about fingerprint marks. It is made out of tough polycarbonate, so it should last a long time.
Once fitted onto your phone, you have access to all of the camera features and all of the ports. There was no problem in gaining access to ports with flaps either. The manufacturers have provided enough room for easy access to all parts of your phone. It can be a bit tricky to remove once on, but that shows how strong it is.
Overall it’s thoroughly recommended. You can purchase it from MobileFun for £9.95 + p&p. Mobile Fun is one of the largest UK retailers dedicated to mobile phone accessories. They deliver across Europe too. Check out our hands-on video after the break.

Hey
Just got one of these today, a hell of a lot better than my silicone thing!! thanks for reccomending it, its now very slim and pretty tough. might cancel my insurance
Dan
I give mobilefun there dues, they do have a great range of mobile phone accessories – good quality too.
What exactly makes it better then the typical one piece silicone case?
My main concern is the inner part of the casing, with silicone the inner is nice and soft so it will absorb shocks if dropped but the inner of this ‘tough-guard’ case looks solid plastic like an crystal case so if you drop it the inside will get damaged like it happened with my previous phone which had an crystal case on it.
So is the inner part of the case hard or soft?
The inner part is plastic too, not rubber, but despite that it feels very solid.
I’ve used those crystal cases in the past and they didn’t feel as securely fitting as the ToughGuard case does. Also, it is called a ‘Shell’ and once it’s on, it’s hard to see the phone being damaged as there’s no wiggle room inside for the handset to bash against the sides.
@soHD
Thanks for clearing that up for me
I purchased one of these but I got it from a company called Supergets. I got it for under £4.00 including P&P.

Identical to the one I purchased on ebay for £1.99 (p&p free).
Great case when it’s on, all control’s etc., are easy to access. Only problem is removing it to access the battery. It is a pig to get off & the plastic is very brittle & snaps easily. This happened with my first one but I liked the case so much I purchased another (would recommend purchasing two at this price) . Took about a week to get to me from Hong Kong.
Sorry, here is the link :-
