Samsung Application store to launch on September 14th

We already knew that a Samsung Application store would launch in September, now we know the exact date. According to a press release it will launch on September 14th. The storefront will first cater for users of the Omnia and i8910 HD handsets (thankfully!)
Initially the app store will hit the UK, France and Italy with a further 30 countries expected to be supported in due course. Downloads will be available over-the-air via credit card or phone bill payments.
You can find the store over at SamsungApps.com, which at the moment has a “Samsung Application Store is coming up! Please visit us again” sign. Three hundred apps are expected on launch day with a further 2,000 by the year-end, certainly sounds impressive. Gameloft, Electronic Arts, Handmark, TAITO, Paragon SW, Capcom, Com2us, Prompt, Pearson Longman, Bokan Tech and Diotek are among the providers of applications to the Samsung Application Store.

Been on there – No Facebook – that should be the number 1 app and yet not available.
Ok, it’s only day 1m but having this phone for a month and with the poor Orange software and very limited support for apps (ovi.com only has a few that actually work – accuweather can’t even get your location!!) I’m getting the feeling this tech was released far too early.
ok, checked the website and all it shows you is the top 20, a http link for your mobile. You goto the mobile site and there’s no way of seeing what the free apps are without looking at each section. OVI.com allows selection by free or paid.
Also have you seen the app costs on the samsung.com website. lol £17.99 for some. lol
anyhow, best if they got the common apps available for i8910 up and running then get the rest available. Facebook app for a start.
So so so disappointed with my first look at the App Store. It looks ok on the PC but you don’t seem to be able to tailor content based on your device, as you could before, so you have to browse through the vast majority of apps that are windows mobile based before even seeing anything for the HD. Content wise, there is very little for the HD, seemingly less than there was on the old site and as Blockbuy has commented, you need to search by section.
Browsing from the HD is useless as the home page is flash based (roll on a s60v5 browser that addresses this) and the current client is for the Windows based omnia.
I pray that within the next few weeks we see some of the HD competition Widgets start being released. I’ve had by HD since April and love it to bits. I do get the feeling though that Samsung are really going to miss the boat if they dont get some decent and affordable apps out there soon. I’m getting fed of of my wife saying “I’ve got an app for that” when I have to subscribe to “Orange Football” for example. On the plus side, I took out a Sky sports TV subscription last month just to try it for free – now there’s a good package, works great and gives me something in terms of content I could only have dreamed of a few years ago. Thumbs up for that one.
Best free App I’ve come across is Snaptu – and I couldnt see that on app store.
Here’s hoping!
It seems like it’s really meant to be used with the mobile client, and at the moment only supports the original omnia. Hopefully the i8910 client is not too far away
