Video preview i8910 HDA big i8910 HD firmware update is expected to land during this month. The new update will offer faster web browsing, an improved graphics engine as well as kinetic scrolling. Anphase, the same person who wrote that 25 page quality control report, recently met with Samsung to talk about his issues and came back impressed with the company’s willingness to talk.

Samsung offered him a test unit with a preview of the new firmware on it. He’s documented his findings in a 10-minute video, which we’ve attached after the break.

Saw this the other day, some nice improvements coming our way or at least it looks like.

I’ve also seen another video on his website just below this one showing some Symbian^4 action on the i8910, which looks very very good, they seem to be using the i8910 to show all this off, so I hope Samsung take note of this and get on it. If they are choosing to use this hand set to show it to the world for the 1st time, then surely that says something about the handset itself????

    Too little too late!

I had the phone since July last year, hoping, praying for some patch to realise the full potential of the hardware on this phone.

Sounds harsh, but shame on you Samsung for allowing this phone to waste away with a donkey dung outdated Symbian operating system. Like having a Mercedes Benz without power steering/air conditioning or airbags lol

Google phone is out and you can’t even implement consistent kinetic scrolling yet?

    Fail!

Nice work, the bottom line is that it is a great hardware purchase and will need innovative software supports and updates in coming months. Thanks a lot on behalf of all users of Hd i8910.

Recanter, I totally understand. But would you rather have a underachieving phone and great software? No potential. What you have now is a phone that just gets better with each upgrade. But yes, it really takes too long time. And some of us don’t have the time to wait. The best videos are those that are taken!

Then again, what’s the alternative to that great camera?

After I got my HD I also were disappointing in the performance. But after having a closer look on some of the competition I’ve decided to keep it. There seems to be nothing coming real soon that will outclass the combination of camera performance and screen.

I don’t know – I just like it more and more, with all the quirks and unhandy menu system… :o )

I’m going to update very soon, but I really hope that kinetic scrolling
in the official update will work better than what I’ve seen in this video on the test unit.
It seems that kinetic scrolling is not implemented in all windows with scrolling capabilities
and the scroll bar is not synchronized to the scrolling window.
Samsung developers still have to work hard…
